Course Overview

The Game Harvester Skill Set (AMPSS00084) is a nationally recognised training program designed for individuals seeking to operate as professional wild game harvesters.

This skill set provides the skills and knowledge required to safely, legally and humanely conduct harvesting operations, including planning, compliance, field procedures and business setup requirements.

This course is suitable for individuals entering the harvesting industry, landholders managing wildlife, contractors expanding into harvesting operations, and experienced shooters transitioning into regulated game harvesting work.

Course Structure

The full Game Harvester Skill Set consists of six nationally recognised units of competency.

This Course (GHSS Package – 5 Units)

This section delivers the remaining five units of competency required for the Game Harvester Skill Set:

  • AMPGAM301 – Apply knowledge of the wild game meat industry
  • AMPGAM302 – Operate a wild game harvester vehicle
  • AMPGAM304 – Eviscerate, inspect and tag wild game carcass in the field
  • AMPQUA205 – Apply hygiene and sanitation practices
  • AMPWHS201 – Sharpen and handle knives safely Successful completion of this package will result in a Statement of

Attainment for these units. Once the AMPGAM303 unit is completed, students will be issued with the full Game Harvester Skill Set.

 

Delivery Method

The GHSS package is delivered via distance learning and is self-paced.

Students are provided with a comprehensive manual containing one chapter per unit. Each unit is completed by reading the material and completing a short quiz before progressing to the next.

Following completion of all units, students undertake a final assignment involving extended responses, development of risk assessments, and creation of equipment and operational procedures required for compliance and can be used as part of students business setup.

Workplace Assessment

The final stage of the course requires a workplace-based assessment. Students must work alongside qualified and licensed harvesters and be assessed performing field activities, including filmed evidence of competency.

Course Duration

This is a self-paced course with up to 12 months from enrolment to complete. Extensions may be granted where sufficient reasons are provided.
